Javelin Mozambique is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Javelin Trucking, operating in Mozambique. The company began trading in 2004, after a lengthy registration process. Steven Allison, the Managing Director, has been instrumental in establishing Javelin’s presence in Mozambique since the mid nineties.
While transport is the primary focus of Javelin Mozambique, the Company has diversified into providing a range of logistics related services to local companies in the country which include contract management, with the emphasis being placed on the HSEQ disciplines. The increased foreign investment has resulted in opportunities to provide services demanded by first-world standards, but at the same time being able to operate under the constraints of the local infrastructure.
Since April 2004, Javelin Mozambique has provided an emergency response service to Petromoc, the government owned oil company. Based at the gas fields of Sasol Petroleum International at Temane, seven-hundred kilometers north of Maputo, Javelin’s responsibilities include :
- Inspection of local transporters’ vehicles;
- Scheduling of vehicles for Sasol / Petromoc for the haulage of condensate, a by-product extracted from the gas fields at Vilanculos;
- Monitoring of en-route incidents;
- Responding to accidents and spillages;
Javelin Mozambique has also been used on an ad-hoc basis by local and foreign companies to attend to special clean-up of spillages and disposal of waste materials, and project management.
The petrochemical industry is serviced by first-class vehicles, which were exported from South Africa. The rigs meet safety standards as demanded by international oil companies, and are kept busy due its outstanding features. Javelin has also been awarded a tender for fuel distribution to the newly developed gas fields at Pande.
Javelin Mozambique is also in a strong position to take up other opportunities in the transport of edible oils and other liquids as the backup and infrastructure available from the holding company is readily available. |
